Sausage & Kale Soup

As the weather continues to turn cooler, I’ve been finding myself craving soup more and more. I had an abundance of kale, a rutabaga and some good sausage. I could think of nothing better to do with it than make a soup.

Cauliflower and Chickpea Curry

Since befriending the Bhutanese refugees in our neighborhood over a year ago, our tolerance for spice has gone up quite a bit. These folks can cook. I’ve eaten some of the best food in their homes. And I am so grateful that they are not shy about teaching me their tricks!

Vegetarian Breakfast Sandwich

Weekday breakfasts consist usually of cereal and if we’re really lucky and running on time, a piece of toast. Weekends, therefore, call for something a bit more luxurious.

Sesame Noodles

I can’t think of many things better than a cold sesame noodle salad. Except maybe one that you make at home for dirt cheap that tastes scads better than what you find at the deli.

Hodge-Podge Soup

I’ve been addicted to making stock. Once I realized how ridiculously simple it was and how it tasted oh, about a thousand times better than the stuff in the box, I can’t stop. Our freezer is half full of gallon zip-lock bags of frozen chicken stock, lined up like little books on a shelf. Josh has banned me from making any more until I use some of it up. Thank the Lord it’s fall!

When Josh Cooks…

Last night Josh told me to get out of the kitchen and go relax. Oh man, how blessed am I? Even more impressive was our feast he prepared! Roasted game hens with sage & rosemary, garlic mashed potatoes, and roasted broccoli with melted cheddar and homemade cheddar jalapeño croutons. Oh, how I love this man.

Leek, Mushroom, and Tomato Quiche (with Parmesan Cracker Crust)

I Love You, Quiche

I Love You, Quiche

This week in our CSA box, we received a leek. I’ve never cooked with a leek. I don’t know why, I just never really knew what to do with it, so I never bought it at the market. And now that one was given to me, I figured I’d better find a recipe worthy of celebrating such an occasion. Read more…
