Leek, Mushroom, and Tomato Quiche (with Parmesan Cracker Crust)

I Love You, Quiche

I Love You, Quiche

This week in our CSA box, we received a leek. I’ve never cooked with a leek. I don’t know why, I just never really knew what to do with it, so I never bought it at the market. And now that one was given to me, I figured I’d better find a recipe worthy of celebrating such an occasion. Read more…

Parmesan Crackers

Addicting. Be Prepared.

Addicting. Be Prepared.

I came across a ridiculously easy recipe for homemade crackers and was intrigued. Crackers are one of those things that are overpriced at the store, often filled with ingredients I can’t pronounce, and are sadly disappointing in flavor. You’re telling me I can do it better, cheaper, and tastier at home? Psh. Bring it on. Read more…

Eggs Benedict… Sortof

Goodness

Goodness

I am a huge lover of eggs benedict. Whenever we’re out for breakfast and I see it on the menu, it takes an exceptionally tempting dish to get me to order anything else. I especially get excited when I see it done a little differently. This morning I was inspired, and wanted to give it a shot. Read more…

Ricotta, Yogurt and Lemon Pancakes

Pancakes That Make Me Like Pancakes

Pancakes That Make Me Like Pancakes

My feelings for pancakes are a little… meh. Sometimes I crave them, but for the most part they don’t really excite me. I came across a recipe for pancakes that called for ricotta cheese and plain yogurt, and it intrigued me. Boy howdy, am I so glad I tried ‘em. Read more…

Indian 101

20 People All Cooking a Feast... I Think This is What Heaven Will Be Like

20 People All Cooking a Feast... I Think This is What Heaven Will Be Like

Last night I went to Pacific Culinary Studio for an Indian cooking class. I’ve tried my hand at some Indian cooking a couple of times, but overall it’s mostly eaten at great restaurants. Now I have a whole collection of recipes to make! Read more…

Bread Pudding

Beautiful Things for Bread Pudding

Beautiful Things for Bread Pudding

Again, Bittman came through when I was wanting to try a new recipe. I’ve never tried my hand at Bread Pudding, and knew this was my year to give it a shot. I was inspired by his recipe, but inevitably tore it all apart and made it my own. It was pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Read more…

Baking with Bhutanese

First Time Making Snickerdoodles!

First Time Making Snickerdoodles!

Josh and I have befriended a few Bhutanese families that are here as refugees from Nepal. It’s been such a wonderful experience for us, to be able to help them settle into their new home, and introduce them to American culture. On another outing, we learned that they girls really liked snickerdoodles. What better way to introduce them to this simple, delicious cookie than to have them over to make some from scratch? Salted Caramel Mocha

Starring... Caramel Sauce, Cocoa, and Rock Salt

Anyone who knows us well enough knows we’re not huge fans of Starbucks. We’re not opposed to patronizing them from time to time, and I even used to work there. Any of you loyal fans (or employees – sorry Elise!) out there that may be reading this, I understand they must be doing something right or there wouldn’t be a billion of them on the planet. However, I’ve found them to be slightly disappointing over the years, and we’ve had more luck with smaller lines of coffee. So when I tried the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate and thought that it came up lacking (tasted more like a doughnut than salt, caramel, or hot chocolate), I knew we could do better making it at home.
