French Toast
Before I discovered this recipe for French Toast, I wasn’t a huge fan of the dish. Now, I love it so much, we’ve made it for guests and have had lots of happy mouths in our home as a result! The trick is thick slices of good homemade bread, and the sweetened cinnamon batter. Yum!
Whole loaf of good French Bread, sliced at least 1″ thick (I suggest Pave bread – the Ciabatta works well for this too!)
3 Eggs
4 oz of Milk
1 tbsp of Maple Syrup
1 tsp of Vanilla
Pinch of Cinnamon
Mix the ingredients together (except the bread of course), just to incorporate things. It’s okay if it’s a bit lumpy, it sticks to the bread better that way. Dip your bread into the batter and fry on medium heat till golden brown on each side. I use oil to fry it initially, then as it’s cooking, add butter to the sides of the pan, so the edges are sweet and crispy. Keep French Toast warm in the oven until ready to eat. Top with maple syrup, jam, powdered sugar, or whip cream. Personally, I like peanut butter and syrup with mine….
