Grilled Peaches with Butter Brown Sugar Sauce
For our amazing Lamb, Steak, and Veggie Barbecue, we had to have an equally worthy dessert. When my dad said he had some really good peaches and asked if I wanted to grill them, I knew it was my moment to shine.
Peaches – among other firm yet juicy fruits, such as strawberries, plums, pineapple, and mangoes – grill really well. It has got to be one of the simplest and most impressive summer desserts you could make. For this go-round, we just sliced up some peaches….
Picked some blueberries from the back yard…
My little sister, Emily, sliced some fresh strawberries….
And we got a butter brown sugar sauce going. I melted a cube of butter (The real stuff. Margarine is a bad word.), added about a cup of brown sugar, and just enough water to thin it. Emily grated some cinnamon into it…
And we let it simmer and thicken for a bit. As the peaches grilled, we basted some of the sauce on them and let it soak in.
Once the peaches were nice and seared on the outside, and dripping with juice, we put them on the platter and – oh joy! – poured the butter brown sugar sauce all over it. I think Josh took about a dozen pictures of this process, it was that beautiful.
My little dish sat there at dinner, tempting me the whole time…
It was also very nice topped with fresh blueberries and strawberries. Lovely.
