Outside of Blue C Sushi

Blue C Sushi is located in the Village outside of the Alderwood Mall. Since Josh and I have discovered it a couple of months ago, we’ve been back several times, and it’s quickly become a favorite place for good, inexpensive sushi.

Sadly, we had taken several pictures before we noticed a sign forbidding it. So, out of respect for the restaurant (and because we want to be able to go back! ha!), we’ll only share a picture of the outside.

The interior is all open, with several booths placed around, and chairs to pull up to the bar. A conveyer belt weaves its way through the customers, loaded with colored plates of treats. Modern lighting hangs overhead, and on one wall is a giant projected image of random Asian footage – everything from what looks to be a breakdancing open competition on the street to anime to babies eating noodles. The hallway to the bathroom is lined with framed photographs of ultra-modern Japanese 20-somethings in very creative dress. Once, while waiting for a table, we played the game, “If you had to wear one of these outfits….”

After we are seated, the waitress comes by to explain how things are run, recognizes us, and shifts to a friendly, “Hey! Welcome back!” I guess we’re old pros by now. :) The process is simple. The plates roll past, you grab what looks good, different colored plates equal different prices, and you push your blue button for help. It’s that simple. And even more delicious.

We have several items that are favorites, that we can’t seem to resist when we go. Mine are the California Rolls (on the yellow $2.50 plate called the ginza line), and Josh’s are the Spicy Tuna Rolls (from the tozai line, on a light blue plate costing $3.50). Other favorites include Cucumber Rolls, Veggie Tempura, Sesame Noodles, Edamame, Gyoza, Seattle Rolls, and Lobster Rolls. Tonight I was craving shrimp in a serious way, and indulged in both the Shrimp Katsu and a Shrimp Tempura Roll. All of the plates are under $4.25, and there are also extra items on the menu (as well as a wide assortment of beverages) that can be asked for. At the end of our meal, our waitress offered Green Tea Ice Cream, which was a nice finish to the delicious dinner. And the value is wonderful as well – we spent a little extra tonight (my craving for shrimp did us in), but usually we get dinner for the both of us for under $20.

Overall, Blue C Sushi comes highly recommended – the decor is hip and entertaining, the staff is extremely friendly, and the food is delicious and a great price. One of these days I might even get myself one of their tshirts… I like the drawing of the salmon nigiri that simply states, “goodness”. Yum.
