Lamb Cooked with Flames!

Lamb Cooked with Flames!

I have to start out by saying that my dad is a great cook. Both of my parents are. My mom does the comfort food, my dad does the “cool” food. The grilling, the seafood, the curries, the sushi. I think I got my love of good, creative food from my dad. One of my favorite ways to spend time with my dad is to cook with him. So when we got the invitation to come over and grill some lamb… how could I say no? Read more…

The other day we had Josh’s family over for dinner, and decided to make hamburgers. If you know me at all, you know that I can’t do anything typical. Grilled burgers just sounded so…. boring. So I started thinking. Read more…

My Husband, the Chef

Can I just say up front that I have the most amazing husband in the world? I really do. The other morning, I had woken up completely exhausted. I hadn’t slept well, and the thought of getting through the day was a little more than I could handle at 4:30 in the morning. Josh said, “What can I do to help you get through your day? What if you came home after work and went straight to bed for a nap? When I come home I’ll start dinner, and I’ll come wake you up when it’s done.”

How amazing is that? All day I was looking forward to that nap and waking up to dinner.

Guys, if you’re wondering how to get your girl to fall in love with you all over again, cook her dinner. Completely cook her dinner. Don’t let her help. Basting Pork Tenderloin in a Coconut Mango Curry

We’re not usually big fans of pork, but while we were shopping one afternoon at Central Market, the sample that was being served was delicious. Inspired by both the taste (and the price – about $3 for a package of 4), I bought a package of pork tenderloin for the grill. Read more…

Rubbing Steak with Herb Paste

Rubbing Steak with an Herb Paste

Tis the season for grilling – and we just treated ourselves to a new compact charcoal grill. Which of course – calls for steak. For this particular dish, we used some fresh herbs from our garden – basil and thyme – and some finely chopped garlic. I made a paste of this with some salt and pepper and a bit of olive oil. (Side note: If I haven’t said it before, I’ll say it now – always, always, always freshly ground pepper and freshly ground salt. Trader Joe’s sells both for a ridiculously cheap price and the flavor is far superior. It’s a simple pleasure.) Read more…
